Keeps perfect time

The timer stores the exact end time and checks it against your device's clock - it never drifts, no matter how busy the browser is or how long the tab sits in the background.

Private by design

No ads, no tracking, no network requests. Even the alarm sound is synthesized on your device - there isn't a single file to fetch.

Free, forever

No sign-up and nothing to install. The tab title shows the countdown, so you can see the time from any tab.

The 25-minute pomodoro timer

The pomodoro technique turns work into fixed 25-minute sprints, and it works because starting a timer is easier than starting a task. The rules:

  1. Pick one task and start the 25-minute preset above.
  2. Work until the alarm - nothing else counts as a pomodoro. If you get interrupted, the pomodoro restarts.
  3. Take a 5-minute break - stand up, look away from the screen.
  4. Every 4 pomodoros, take a long break of 15-30 minutes.

Four full cycles is about three hours of genuinely focused work - more than most unstructured days contain.

Frequently asked questions

Does the timer keep working in a background tab?

Yes. The timer stores the exact end time and compares it against the clock, so switching tabs never makes it drift - and the remaining time stays visible in the tab title. Browsers do slow down hidden tabs to save power, so in extreme cases the alarm can ring a moment late, but the countdown itself is always exact when you return.

Why don't I hear the alarm sound?

Browsers only allow sound after you have interacted with the page - pressing Start counts, so normally you are fine. If it is still silent: check the Sound toggle here, your system volume, and your browser's per-site sound permissions (some browsers mute sites by default). Use the Test button next to the Sound toggle to check in one click.

How accurate is this online timer?

Accurate to a few milliseconds. Instead of counting ticks - which drift when the browser is busy - it records the target end time and continuously compares it with your device's clock. A 25-minute timer ends 25 minutes later to within the blink of a frame.

What is the pomodoro technique?

Work in focused 25-minute blocks separated by 5-minute breaks; after four blocks, take a longer 15-30 minute break. The fixed interval makes starting easier and gives procrastination a deadline. The 25-minute preset above is exactly this - start it and work until the alarm.

Can I use the timer in fullscreen?

Yes - click the Fullscreen button (or press F) and the countdown fills the screen, readable from across a classroom or kitchen. Press Esc or F again to exit. It works for the stopwatch too.

Will the alarm ring if my phone is locked?

Not reliably - mobile browsers pause web pages when the screen locks, and that limitation applies to every web-based timer. For anything critical on a phone (cooking, medication, catching a train), set the built-in clock app's alarm as a backup. On a computer, the timer keeps running and rings normally.

Does the timer send any data anywhere?

No. The page makes no network requests after loading, the alarm sound is synthesized on your device (there is not even an audio file to fetch), and your preferences are saved only in your own browser's local storage.

Does the timer work offline?

Yes. The whole tool is one self-contained page, so once it has loaded it keeps working without a connection - timing, laps, alarm sound and all. Save the page to your device and it works forever.
